Minot's "Terrific Twins" lead the Magi to the state title, Laura Kraft starts strong, holds off Weiszhaar to claim the state crown

As Minot's lone senior, standout Shantel Montgomery, struggled to find her game, the Magi used their winning formula of team depth to claim their first state title since 1995. Junior Mickayla Nagel's career best 72 and twin sister Mackenzie's 75 led Minot to a tournament low team score of 308 on day two of state. Emma Kusick also went low, firing a season low 78. Minot's win is also the first for the WDA since 1995. Laura Kraft backed up her day one 71 with a solid 74 as she battled West Fargo's Krista Weiszhaar througout the second day of competition. Kraft, Jamestown's first ever state medalist, kept her sizzling play going with a two-under par 34 on the front nine. Weiszhaar battled to within three shots but could get no closer as the Blue Jay sophomore capped a tremendous season by winning four of the last five tournaments of the season.

Minot survives a challenge from Century to capture West Region...Laura Kraft holds off Shantel Montgomery down the stretch to claim the Region title

The Minot Magicians withstood an impressive charge by the Century Patriots to claim the West Region title at Souris Valley Golf Club in Minot. The Magicians scored well at the top with second place finisher Shantel Montgomery leading the way with a two-over 74. Three other Magi landed on the all-tournament team by finishing in the top 10. Individually, Laura Kraft and Montgomery battled down the stretch with Kraft carding birdies on three of the last four holes to claim the title. Montgomery, after starting her round with a double and triple bogey, rallied to make it a match by playing the last 16 holes at three-under par. But Kraft nailed birdie putts of eight feet on 17 and 10 feet on 18 to fend off Montgomery's rally.

Shanley edges Red River to claim the East Region Crown...West Fargo's Krista Weiszhaar fires a 76 to win the East

The Shanley Deacons won the East Region crown, not because they got their usual stallar rounds from sophomore sensations Sarah Storandt and Liz Strom. Instead, junior Caroline Crary stepped up her game, firing a season best 81 to provide Shanley just enough fire power to get past Red River and claim their third straight East Region. Individually, West Fargo standout senior Krista Weiszhaar put an exclamation point on a great season with a hard fought victory at the West Region. Her four-over 76 was two better than Shanley's Sarah Storandt.
