One of the most important things is that JCL be fun. We aren't just a bunch of nerds sitting around talking about the different Caesars. We like to get out and do stuff. We aren't exactly Bacchan Revelers, but just look at all the things we have going on.

Bowling: NDSU invites us to use their private bowling lanes for a JCL outing every year. Not many people were able to come last year, but those who did had fun. The time is still being set up, so check back here later for more info.

Sledding: You're never too old to go tubing. Local Fargo area JCL's can get together any weekend and go tubing together. Edgewood Golf Course and the Dike have tubes and a warming house that can be reserved at a low cost.

Movies: What beats a great Roman-themed movie? Gladiator was one of the best. Last year, a group of us got together to go out and watch it. Almost everyone saw it at least once. There are a lot of other good ones. Wouldn't it be fun to get together some weekend with some pizza and pop and watch Ben Hur or something?

Cookoffs: I believe it was Bismarck that told me about this great idea. They get together with other foreign language clubs and then have a cooking contest. They charge a couple of dollars for admission and people can come compete, watch, and most importantly, eat all kinds of delicacies. Imagine some Roman entree with an Italian pasta and then some German chocolate cake to top it off. Doesn't that sound good?

Laser Tag: Was it South or Discovery that came up with this one? They challenged other clubs from their school to a laser tag contest one night. Sounds like fast-paced fun for all.

Catapults: Shanley built their first catapult last year. It's a working model, with a capability of approximately 25 feet. It's made of wood and metal fastenings and even has wheels. They are more than willing to share their plans with anyone interested in building their own.

Chariots: Ah yes. Last, but not least. It's true, Shanley is leading a movement to bring back the famous chariot races of Concordia conventions years past. They have restored one from the early '90s and have built another one from scratch. Hopefully, everyone else saw how awesome the chariots are when Shanley brought them to the state convention and showed them off. Next year each chapter can build one and then there will be real chariot races again.
