If conventions are the summit of the North Dakota Junior Classical League, then Latin is the heart of the NDJCL. The organization is based on the study of Latin. Many claim that there's no reason to learn Latin because, "It's a dead language." Well, let me tell you something. Latin is alive and well. It's the "language of intellectuals." More than two-thirds of the English language is based upon Latin. So are many law, medical, and scientific terms. Where do you think they get all those fancy words, species names, etc? We're here to help you learn Latin and about the Classical Period of history. Check out some of the online texts we have compiled a list of. Or find yourself a verb conjugator. Trust me, there's more historical (and whimsy) information about the Greeks and Romans on the internet than you could ever imagine possible. It's not all dry facts, either. If you don't believe me, take a look at one of the lists of famous, funny, or insulting Latin sayings. Then use them on your friends and see how frustrated they get when they don't have a clue what you're saying. Or just say something random and you'll still sound smart. No one else has to know that you just asked what color toga cows wear. The following are a couple selected links of the best Latin web sites on the internet to get you started in your quest for knowledge. Although there are hundreds of thousands more, almost anything you need can be found at one of these sites. |
