2001 Minutes

Meeting was held at the Radisson Inn, in conjunction with the 2001 All Service Conference, on Thursday, August 8, 2001. The meeting was called to order with the following individuals present:

A motion was moved and second to support Dianne Mondry, the new ACTE President and a gala event in New Orleans at the national convention by donating $100.00 to that cause.

Treasures Report; $3284.00

 Planning teacher convention October 18, 2001 – October 19, 2001

Members will meet at West Fargo High School for NEA registration. A workshop at Valley City Regional Technology Center is in order for Thursday October 18. Transportation will be provided for those who require it. Rides will leave West Fargo between 10:00 and 11:00 am.

A hands-on TSA workshop is in order for Friday, October 19 at West Fargo High School .
A teacher round table will also be in order.
A motion to adjourn was moved and second.

New Business

Don Fischer made welcoming comments. Discussion of office mailings should be done electronically. A step through the Vocational Technical Website was demonstrated.

Schedule of data acquisition due dates were discussed.

Rich Cwikla spoke about TSA.
Doug Spiekermeier spoke on membership.

Adding elementary education to the membership was discussed.

A motion by Erwin Van Veldhuizen to adopt a $20.00 membership for a K-6 school, second by Larry Abdallah, motion carried.

Larry Abdallah made a motion to adjourn, second by Erwin Van Veldhuizen, motion carried.

Winter planning meeting will be held at the Wagon Master @ Jamestown

Old Business

Secretary Andrew Rohwedder read minutes of the last meeting. Jeff made a motion to approve the so read minutes, second by Erwin, motion passed.

David Lee gave Treasures Report: $3062.44 All bills are paid. Memberships are being dealt with as needed and are in process. Larry made a motion to approve the Treasures report, second by Ron, motion carried.

David Lee gave a membership report: ITEA members 17, not including students and life memberships. This list needs to be updated.

ACTE members: 10
NDTEA members: 50

There are a total of about 111 Tech Ed. Teachers in the State.

One Elementary Membership will be added (Sweetwater) in Devils Lake .

David Lee made a motion to pay any bills that need board approval, Erwin second, motion carried.

Ernie asked for board approval for the nomination for Program Excellence Award and Teacher Excellence Award.

Van nominated Byron Borgen for Young Educator Award, Don second, motion carried.

Ernie discussed the importance of this organization to see that these awards continue.

The award selection process was discussed and is located on the Vocational Education Tech Ed web site.

There are several members that are eligible for many awards in the future.

The Professional Development Award, which is chosen by this group, was discussed.

Valley City State University Technology Education Department was nominated by Erwin and second by Ray, for their devoted in-service training they have provided over many years, motion carried.

Doug nominated David Lee also for his devoted service of Business Manager, second by Andy, motion carried.

Service recognition for all members with five years and every increment of five years need to be given a certificate for those that deserve.

David and Ernie will work on the needed plagues.

Ray and the Graphics Class at UND will work on certificates and a design or a NDTEA Membership Card.

Discussion was held to clarify the funds available for award recipients. In the past, award winners could ask the association for money to defray expensed. Ray moved that $200 per award be made available at the request of the award winner. That would be a maximum of $800 in any given year (Elementary, Middle School and High School Program of the Year and Teacher of the Year). The motion was seconded by Don and passed.

Don reported on the needs of the web site. To date the page is current except for the Constitution and some missing historical names? Question was asked if a Historian is needed or the duties of a Historian need to be assigned.

Don gave a report on the status of the Curriculum Committee. Framework to Tech Ed should be in print and ready by All Service 2002. It will include new course titles ready for adoption for State Standards.

Don reported on TSA. Five schools have paid their membership. Memberships are due by the end of the year. One new member, Alexander.

Don will send another E-mail reminder. State TSA date is April 28-29 in Bismarck .

New Business

Teachers Convention Minot October 17-18, 2002
NDTEA Annual meeting will be held Wednesday evening 9:00 PM Jamie
Royster-Wagner will host. Site to be announced.
Thursday AM is open to NDEA business

Thursday NDTEA open registration 11:30 - 12:00 and lunch (pizza)
Thursday 12:30 - 1:00 Business Meeting, may have awards to give.
Thursday 1:00 Activities? Possible suggestions: Bubble House, Golf Course, and Survival House. Joel Lawson, Jamie, Bill Uscensky will host.
Friday 8:30 - 9:00 coffee and goo followed, perhaps, by a tour. Hosts may decide.

All Service Conference 2002 -Don will put together. Suggested topics were:

Tuesday and Wednesday - Curriculum standards, panel discussion, demonstration on embroidery, Lego robotics, Toys R Us.
Thursday - Rhino Robotic Workshop (for credit and all invited)

Matt gave a report on Camp Cyber Prairie, to be held in Valley City . Levels that will be offered and activities were mentioned. 50 students will be able to participate. There will be three levels: senior high, middle school and elementary. Literature is available.
