Program Of The Year

THE AWARD
The International Technology Education Association in conjunction with its affiliated state associations is calling for monimations for ITEA's Technology Education Program of the Year Awards. These awards are presented annually at ITEA's International Conference as a result of input received from the selection committee representing each affiliated state association. This award acknowledges the superior technology programs and professional involvement in technology education associations.

The award can be earned by (a) an elementary program, (b) a middle school/junior high school program and (c) a senior high school program. Each state or province affiliated with ITEA can have three state winning programs. The state selected winners must meet the requirements set forth in the criteria and procedures booklet.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Program must be assessed using the Standards for Technology Education Programs, 1985, as the criteria for assesment. (assessment procedures determined by state association)

  2. Program nominated must be assessed by a team of at least three persons. (determined by state association)

  3. The program nominated must meet or exceed 70 percent of the standards.

  4. Sixty percent of the technology faculty must be members of the International Technology Education Association and the affiliated association.

  5. A school specific curriculum guide, written or revised within the last five years, must be used and submitted with the nomination.

  6. Nominations must be submitted by (a) the superintendent of schools for the district/county award or (b) the principal for the schol building award.

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. After teacher's convention, elgibile recipients are determined based on requirements#4

  2. A letter is sent to the school administration requesting a recommendation for this program

  3. Specific "Calendar of Units" are on file with the state supervisor. (if not, they are requested)

  4. A review of recipients is conducted by: State Supervisor and ITEA representative

  5. Award recipient and school administrator is informed by letter and telephone call

  6. Award recipient's name and program are forwarded to ITEA

  7. News release is prepared and distributed by ITEA represenative
