Teacher Excellence Award

The Technology Teacher of the Year Award, the most prestigious recognition for instructional excellence, is sponsored by the International Technology Education Association (ITEA) in cooperation with its state affiliates.

State and national recognition is provided to the teacher.  A certificate of achievement is granted at the state association's annual conference.  During the international ITEA conference, the awardee receives the formal award of an engraved plaque.

This award is the old A.I.A.A./N.D.I.A.A. Teacher of the Year Award with some changes in the requirements to be an eligible candidate.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be nominated by an educator.

  • Must be a current member of both the affiliated association and the International Technology Education Association.

  • Must have held memberships in the state association and the International Technology Education Association for the preceding year.

  • Must be a full-time secondary teacher of technology education (e.g. teacher of at least four periods per day).

  • Must be a teacher whose superiors believe is worth of being considered an outstanding state educator.

SELECTION PROCESS

1.  Nominations submitted by educators in the field by November 1st.
       
2.  Review committee consists of the following :  State Supervisor, Most recent recipient of the award, ITEA representative, Representative of Valley City State University, Representative of the University of North Dakota

3.  Portfolios of each candidate sent to committee members.      

4.  Each committee member ranks candidates and returns ratings to the ITEA representative who tallies results.        

5.  A telephone call is made to each committee member to review results.        

6.  Award recipient and school administrator is informed by letter and telephone call.        

7.  Award recipient's name is forwarded to ITEA.        

8.  News release is prepared and distributed by ITEA representative.
